Phil Collins Speaks About Quitting

British musician Phil Collins has said that he is about to finish his touring, album recording, and generally speaking music career, wrote The Times.

Fifty seven year old musician added that he is going to continue to write music because it’s something he cannot stop doing.

In 2007 there was a concert tour dedicated to the Genesis reunion where Collins participated as a singer and drummer. Besides Genesis (where Collins was from 1970 to 1993) he also collaborated with the jazz project Band X. Phil Collins has performed with Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Sting, Eric Clapton, and George Harrison.

During his solo career Collins was honored with seven ‘Grammys’ and one ‘Oskar’ for the best soundtrack.  His personal albums became even more popular than Genesis records.  Major hits made by this artists go as follows: Against All Odds, One More Night, Separate Lives, Another Day in Paradise and In the Air Tonight. All of these were written in 1980’s.

Stradivari Is Back

A musician was given back his violin which is worth of four million dollars, said Associated Press.

On April 21 during the night time a famous American violinist Philippe Quint who was once nominated for “Grammy” forgot his violin which was made by Stradivari  himself in 1723 “Ex-Keisewetter” on the taxi’s backseat in Battery Park, New York. The driver didn’t even notice that he was riding with such a precious instrument until the end of that night. 

The owner of ‘Stradivari’ has called the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and a taxi service in Newark (NJ) saying about his loss.  The driver found it on Monday and gave back to a musician.  As it was said, when Philippe Quint received it back, he fell on his knees and began to cry from happiness.

My Bloody Valentine Shall Headline ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties’

The cult-like British band My Bloody Valentine was chosen to be the headliner and curator of the “All Tomorrow’s Parties” (ATP) Festival in New York, said Pitchfork.

This festival received it’s name after one of the songs written by “The Velvet Underground”.  It shall last from 19th to 21st of September 2008.  It’s going to be the first concert for My Bloody Valentine since their last year’s reunion, and the first performance in the US in sixteen years. 

Based on rights of the headliner and curator the band has already formed ATP’s program.  It’s planned to make four concerts during which various bands will make the day by playing their full classic albums:  Tortoise go with “Millions Now Living Will Never Die”, Meat Puppets – “Meat Puppets II”, Built to Spill – “Perfect From Now On”, and guitarist from Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore – “Psychic Hearts”.

Besides that ATP shall include possibly shorter performances by: Mogwai, Low, Wooden Shjips, Shellac, Polvo, F*ck Buttons, Autolux, The Drones and Tee Silver Mount Zion Orchestra.

Nokia Comes With Music

Record label Sony BMG has joined the program Nokia Comes with Music, said Nokia’s press release. Those who are purchasing Nokia phones will be able to download free music content from Sony BMG for twelve months.  Awaited appearence of the Nokia Comes with Music phones is planned for the second half of 2008.

For an unlimited access to the musical (speficially licensed) content buyers of Nokia Comes with Music will have to pay 80$ dollars more for this product. Partially these additional money shall be taken by the record labels.

In March 2008 an agreement (Comes with Music project) was signed between Nokia and another record label, EMI.  In December 2007 Comes with Music project was also joined by the Universal Music.

‘Meltdown’ Is On The Move

The infamous cult-like trip-hop band from Bristol Massive Attack is going to organize another very good music festival Meltdown in London, said Drowned Sound.

This year a festival will take place from 14th to 22nd of June. As usual concert’s location is arranged to be in Southbank Centre.

Massive Attack was compiling the list of bands that shall play at this event.  If not counting the organizers it looks like this: Gong, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Elbow, Gang of Four, Tunng, Tom Tom Club. Also, some of the artists are still planning to be there, and those are: Horace Andy, Adrian Sherwood, Grace Johns and George Clinton.

Meltdown is going on in London every year since 1993.  This event was cancelled two years ago when Southbank Centre was closed for the reconstruction.

In different times various artists were oranizing Meltdown: David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Morrissey, Nick Cave, Laurie Anderson, Patti Smith, Scott Walker and Robert Wyatt.

David Bowie Goes Ziggy Stardust Again

David Bowie is releasing the concert album, says New Musical Express.

As it follows from the disk name “David Bowie, Live Santa Monica ‘72” it includes a live concert record that was made during Bowie’s tour around the US while supporting his classic album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stargust and the Spiders from Mars”.  When making this conceptual record Bowie has created a fictional character Ziggy Stargust.  As he told NME at the moment of the concert in Santa Monica he got so close to his imagined character that he even stopped being himself.

The album “David Bowie, Live Santa Monica ‘72” will appear in stores on June 30 including CD and a vinyl double copy.
